Cheers to beautiful summer weather. I don’t know about you, but summer is one of my favorite seasons, especially since we’ve moved back up north. Personally, nothing can compare to the deep green foliage and sweet-cut grass smell that fills the air up here, and more specifically the Adirondacks of Upstate New York where my parents reside (and where the photo above was taken). Have you ever listened to the some ‘The House That Made Me’ song by Miranda Lambert? Well, this lake house (the view above) has been the one consistent ‘home’ throughout my entire life. Its the little piece of mid-century architecture that inspired me to pursue architecture, interior design, and my own color and design style. I remember reading something, in some book, during those deep rabbit holes of research that graduate school will take you down, that as a designers (and adults in general) we tend to design spaces as reflections of our childhoods. In other words, if we have happy memories, versus negative ones, we tend to choose colors, textures, and general design decisions similar to those of our early homes. In comparison, those with more negatively impacted early memories will design in direct contradiction to those spaces. Well for those who’ve had the chance to work, learn, and have me design a space/home for you, you may find some of this lake house now fused a little into your own homes.

You may be wondering why I’m talking about this house and how it pertains to this newsletter. Well, first of all its on the top of my mind because my husband and I will be bringing Leo (our 7 month old son) there for his first visit in a couple weeks (make sure to follow me on Instagram @kellyfridline to see little peaks of the house a property). He’s now part of the fourth generation of Snells (my maiden name) to start making memories on the Great Sacandaga Lake AND this home. Second, as I’m sure you’re fully aware, making a house feel like home has probably become a staple in our incomes now more than ever. Third, you’ll be seeing some changes in Kelly Fridline Design in the coming weeks, this includes services, pricing, and website(s) so please stay tuned, since my business is like a home to my creativity this is just as impactful to my family and lifestyle goals as any structural dwelling would be. Remember, your business is a direct reflection of you, make it like your own home…hopefully somewhere you want to spend a lot of time at/in/on.

With all of that in mind, here are a few things that have been happening for Kelly Fridline Design.

Online Courses

Home Designer for Interior Designers is now available to purchase either à la carte or bundled with the eDesign Tribe Platform Mini Course. As you will noticed when checking out the Curriculum, this is a pretty meaty course specifically tailored to Interior Designers using Home Designer Pro. I’ve even covered various rendering styles and settings that will give you the biggest bang for your buck, using whats available IN Home Designer (no outside rendering software needed, unless you want to). The lessons, including the rendering sections, are pre-recorded and designed as more of a index style of learning (rather than building a model and following my steps). I wanted you to have easy and quick videos/lessons that you can go to if you’re stuck trying to model a particular element. This is an open-ended course with material being added as requested and recorded as needed.

This brings me to my next point, the Chief Architect for Interior Designers course, is in the works, you can expect the pre-sale for this to open up at the end of the summer- early-fall. Structured very similarly to Home Designer for Interior Designers, this will be a learn as you go prerecorded course formatted via Teachable.com. Mentoring & Networking Group for Virtual Design Assistants and Rendering Artists

As you probably already know, especially since you’re on this email list, I’ve been working as a Virtual Design Assistant and Rendering Artist for more that three years. In that time I’ve had the opportunity to work with many amazingly talented designers AND been personally coached by an industry powerhouse, Nancy Ganzekaufer, to get my business to where it is today. With many hours, some tears, hard lessons, and too many lonely nights I was lucky enough to eventually be introduced to Sarah Durnez of Loft Design. At that time, we’d both been living as (in a way) virtual hermits in a pretty secluded part of the industry. While many Facebook Groups were formed to help Interior Designers learn and network with each other, the Virtual Assistant and Rendering world was (and still is) very cut throat and lonely. With ID’s constantly requesting work and dozens of VDA’s responding it makes it very difficult to feel like you can compete, without under charging and ‘beating out’ colleagues offering similar services. I remember wanting to join various group coaching opportunities, but when you’re ideal client is part of that group and sometimes you just need to get some things off your chest it wasn’t something I was comfortable with.

Since then, I’ve received quite a bit of interest around me coaching and mentoring both aspiring and established Virtual Design Assistants and Rendering Artists working with Interior Designers. While 1:1 couching will be available (in addition to some other exciting products in the works), I decided to establish a weekly virtual group where like minded Designer-to-Designer boss babes can meet and network. The goal is to provide a safe space, so this will not be open to just anyone. Each designer will be need to apply and their application reviewed prior to being subscribed in the group. 

This will be a bi-weekly group meeting every other Monday Morning at 10 am EST starting August 10, 2020.

Fee: $47 bi-weekly subscription per Designer (space is limited)
